The Met Gala happens to be one of the most awaited events on the world’s fashion calendar. With its creative theme and dramatic sartorial narratives, the event is a feast no fashion lover can afford to miss. And the Met Gala 2018 was just the same.

Crowns and hoodies and wings and Jesus-inspired outfits complying with the events religious ‘Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination’ theme made the night truly dreamy and angelic. Amidst all these theme-centric garments there was another stunner of a piece that, unfortunately, failed to strike the right cords with fans… Deepika Padukone’s elaborate red gown!

Walking the Met Gala red carpet for the second time, Deepika was seen working a beautiful red gown with a sexy thigh-high slit, interesting drape details and a dramatic shoulder bow. The gown was picked out for her by her stylist Shaleena Nathani and was a Prabal Gurung creation. This was matched with a pair of red strappy heels that elevated the diva’s already tall frame.

Adding a little bling to her ensemble, DP opted for a pair of beautiful serpentine diamond and pearl earrings by Tasaki and a matching ring from the same label. Her straight raven hair was given a wet-ish look while smoky eyes and bold red lips rounded off Deepika’s red carpet turnout. Her hair and makeup for the night was done by Harry Josh and Sandhya Shekar.

Despite the fact that Padukone looked her ravishing self, the diva’s Met Gala look was dissed by social media for not being in-tune with the fashion event’s theme. Though there have been some who came out in support of the actress and defend her outfit choice by pointing out that the theme also includes ‘Sunday Best’ and Deepika’s outfit can very well fall into that category.

This isn’t the first time that Deepika’s Met Gala look has been trolled for not having any connection with the event’s theme, the actress’ sleek Tommy Hilfiger number that she wore last year for her debut at the event was also criticised heavily for not complying with the then theme, “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons.”
