Exclusive: A Sneak-Peek At Anavila Misra’s LFW Autumn/Winter 2017 Collection
With sustainable fashion gaining momentum, comfort trumping all else in an ensemble and the saree fascination going off the charts, Anavila Misra, is not a name that needs an introduction. The designer can single-handedly be credited for transforming sarees from ethnic to chic and making them more relatable and wearable for the present-day woman. Anavila is all set to present her new collection at the upcoming season of the Lakme Fashion Week and it’s strikingly different from what we’ve come to expect from the designer, or so suggests this little sneak peek we got into her latest work. We got in touch with the designer to find out more about this fun-looking collection.
Check it out…
1. What is the theme and inspiration for this collection?
Our Winter’17 collection is called Blur. It’s an expression that’s rooted in the fundamentals of design where form is leading the thought. It has been inspired by my pursuit for ‘strong minimalism’ where the strength lies in the understatement. The collection not only blurs the austerity of a predominantly black and deep colour palette but also the boundaries of fashion, making it cross-continental.
2. How have you blended your signature style with this theme?
The collection is multilayered and unique in its design detailing, but at the same time we have stayed true to our philosophy of ‘comfort comes first.’ The cuts and silhouettes have been designed keeping this in mind.
3. Apart from black, what does the colour palette look like?
This time I have explored the colour black for the very first time. Black along with colours like olive, burgundy, indigo and grey creates a beautiful symphony. I wanted to show the soft and romantic side of black through beautiful surface treatments.
4. What textiles and techniques dominate this collection?
We mostly work with linen. As this is the Autumn Winter collection, we have introduced yarns like silk, wool and khadi in our textiles. We have, as always, worked on the loom to create beautiful textures which have then enhanced by the usage of handblock prints, khatwa and hand embroideries with unique placements.
5. One Fall/Winter trend to look out for in your collection?
High neck blouses, pleated trousers and soft detailed trenches.
6. Which is your favourite piece from the collection?
I love the entire collection 🙂
