Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2018 Day 1: Trend Spotting, Appearances

Fashion week came early to our city this year and started off with a bang filled with a fresh crop of young talent, relaxed silhouettes and a whole lot of trend-setting style.

1. Jet-setter chic

Nothing says ‘resort’ better than some relaxed chic ensembles that are decked out with prints. These outfits offered us some serious wanderlust with the way that they were styled — just give us a suitcase, because we’re inspired to pack for our vacations right away!

2. Dress over everything

If you thought a jacket was the only way to layer this summer, think again. These designers have us re-thinking cover-ups with chic and sheer dresses over just about any silhouette underneath!

3. Bubble sleeves

After a big trend resurgence internationally, we saw a slew of designers opt for some some bubble volumes on their ensembles — specifically the sleeves. Nothing like a voluminous arm to add some much needed drama to your look!

4. Striped chic

When all else fails, there’s always stripes to turn to. Nothing saves the day like a stylish look bedecked in stripes and our designers know this all too well. Whether bold and thick or minimal and slick, linear lines were all the rage on the runway.

5. Shine on

Lightweight metallic textures ruled the catwalk with a mix of subtle and shiny looks convincing us to sport some sheen this summer.

6. Drawstring defined

While seeing some visible drawstrings on trouser waist-bands was a common occurrence, some designers used it to define and distort their silhouettes — case-in-point, the drawstring gathered sleeve at Dhruv Kapoor gets some serious style points for added drama.

7. Classic co-ords

This chic trend just proved that it isn’t going away anytime soon. There’s nothing like a co-ordinated match to set some serious street style scores this summer.

8. Layered summer

Sharp, relaxed and draped — layers took on a language of their own this season with designers proving that a little lightweight layering can take you far this summer.

9. Subtly sheer

Summer style and sheer go hand in hand, so it didn’t surprise us when it made its way back on the runway. This time around though, the sheer hints were a lot more subtle and chic.

10. Print frenzy

Prints were a statement trend on the first day of fashion week and lucky for us, they were everything but boring summer florals.

11. Belted babes

Our favourite fashion week accessory was back in refreshed form after last season’s corseted obsession. This season, designers welcomed the addition of really long leather belts that spelled seriously chic!
