Best Of 2016: Thigh-High Slit Was A Rage Among Style Stars
If you’re one among the sartorially bold, a thigh high slit is what you’ve got to try before we officially enter 2017. Why? Not only is it a sexy-meets-edgy style to don, it was also celebrity-approved and is now touted as this year’s favorite red carpet look. The thigh-high slit is not as revealing as the naked dress, but allows you to show off some skin without you looking too raunchy. Looking to take some fashion inspiration? Here’s a look at all the fashionistas who aced the thigh-high slit this year.
For the recent Lux Golden Rose Awards, Deepika Padukone wore a gown by Ralph & RussoFor the recent Lux Golden Rose Awards, Deepika Padukone wore a gown by Ralph & Russo with a thigh high slit. Needless to say that she rocked the red carpet like no other. Deepika is one of the many celebrities who’s taken a liking to this trend and also pulls it off pretty well. While there’s nothing new about Deepika giving us an exceptionally great look be it on-duty or otherwise, I’ve to give her full marks for raking up the style charts every now and then. From punk glam to uber feminine to geeky chic, her style is transitional and experimental, with no two looks alike.
Wearing a sequinned bralette with a matching cape and an olive green pleated skirt with a thigh-high slit by Monisha Jaising, Deepika Padukone looked super stunning at the 2016 MTV EMA. While not too many people approved of this look of hers, I personally loved it. Especially the addition of the tasselled shoulder dusters, which worked pretty well with the attire.
Everything she wears makes headlines both internationally and here. Rightfully so, given what a diva she is and how effortlessly she carries every look of hers. For the 2016 Billboards Music Awards, Priyanka Chopra wore a blue Atelier Versace dress with a thigh-high slit, that she teamed up with Casadei ankle-strap sandals. Needless to say, she slayed it on that red carpet.
This one look was surely the turning point for supermodel Bella Hadid. As she walked on the red carpet of the 2016 Cannes Film Festival wearing a red Alexander Vauthier thigh-high slit gown, she stole the spotlight. The 19-year-old pulled off this nearly-naked couture gown with a plunging neckline and side cut-outs with so much style, we couldn’t take our eyes off her.
Malaika Arora Khan
In Bollywood, the one name you can count on for some fashion-forward cues is Malaika Arora Khan. For the recent Lux Golden Rose Awards, Malaika wore a shimmery number by Monisha Jaising, an outfit she completed with a layered choker and golden multi-strap Giuseppe Zanotti heels.
At the Grammy Awards 2016, Taylor Swift gave the colour-blocking trend a try by teaming up a tangerine bandeau top and a fuchsia skirt that had a centre-parted, thigh-high slit. The Atelier Versace separates were matched up with copper multi-strap heels. I don’t think anyone else could have carried this look better that Taylor.
In a black cape-styled lace crop top with poudre pleated full skirt by Shehlaa Khan, Anushka Sharma walked the red carpet for the Lux Golden Rose Awards. A pair of nude ankle-strap heels is what completed her look, and she accessorised with Nirav Modi jewels.
If there’s anyone who’s taken the thigh-high slit to the next level (literally) it’s got to be Chrissy Teigen. Wearing a Yousef Akbar that obviously seemed a tad too revealing for a lot of people, I think Chrissy owned her look. One thing’s for sure, when talking about thigh-high slits, she will be remembered in red carpet history.
Freida looked great in a thigh-high slit gown with cut-outs on it. Full marks for that hair and makeup that completed her look.
In an Alexis Mabille gown that she teamed up with a Aperlai multi-strap sandals, Vaani Kapoor worked the thigh-high slit in style.
